The stage
At a glance, it was obvious that the stage of this prestigous pageant was designed according to disco mood. The stage was meant to be a dance floor for all the delegates to showcase their marvellous performance. As the competition goes on, it turned up to be a mild carbaret show instead of a beauty pageant. It was an innovative theme but it was not all that 'beauty pageant' .

The opening
Elegantly dressed in maroon evening dresses, the delegates were briefly introduced to the audience. All delegates were glamorously styled and HOB picked Sharon and Ashley as the most outstanding delegates for the opening show.

The Interview competition
Styled-up like women from the 60's, the delegates wore leopard skin fabric dresses and a wig. The questions were specifically structured according to the personality and background of each delegate in order for the judges have a closer look of each delegate from a different perspective.

The Talent competition
Tiffany, Sharon, Stephy and Ashley showed a lot of effort in their talent performance. Tiffany showcased her gymnastic skills while Sharon rapped her way to a round of applause from the audience. It was also quite entertaining to watch Stephy performing her Latin dance as for once, she really showed some effort for this competition. Emily, Christina and Chloe should be voted out from the talent competition, for their super boring performance.

The swimsuit parade
Danny, a talented local new singer, was invited to perfom with the delegatesin this segment. Clad in sexy black bikinis, the delegates were required to do hip-hop dance while Danny rap the delegates vital stats. Dancing in swimwear is a very fresh idea and it gave the delegates chances to show-off their physique in a very healthy manner. HOB must note that the swimwear is very sexy and sophisticated, best swimwear so far in MACIP history.

The Top 5
The audience were ecstatic when Joanne was named as one of the top 5, and gone even wilder when Ashley was not being named in the top 5. It was quite unconvincing to tell there is nothing wrong with the SMS voting system as Ashley remained on the top spot until the very last SMS results which was being announced, whereby Ashley was dropped out from the top 5. Each of the delegates who managed to move on to the top 5 were to pick a judge for their final question. Emily's top 3 spot, was definitely being saved by Sam Suet (invited judge, a novelist from Hong Kong) question. Otherwise, Chloe might have landed in the top 3.

MACIP CHALLENGE 3

ASHLEY HANGING ON TOUGH!

After challenge 3, it is quite obvious that Ashley is the one to beat int this competition as she is still hanging on tough despite 2 rounds of almost being eliminated scene. Ashley is confident and nice but probably lack of a pageant's look.

The delegates paraded in bikinis and evening wear for the final challenge. And to our surprise, Tiffany won the challenge and Christina won the SMS immunity. Both performed quite ordinary. The scores for the swimwear competition were as follow:

1. Christina 6.83 (As usual, her nervousness showed in her intro speech)
2. Joanne 7.67 (Joanne actually screwed-up in the intro presentation)
4. Emily 6.50 ( Did not perform catwalk after the intro speech, she has forgotten to catwalk!)
6. Chloe 7.67
7. Sharon 7.50
8. Naomie 7.83
9. Stephy 7.33
10. Yen 7.83
11. Mandy 6.33 (Intro speech was out of order)
12. Ashley 5.50
13 Tiffany 8.17

** Probably the coldness in the studio has caused the delegates to loose control of their originally well prepared performance

Mandy was voted out by the delegates while Ashley stayed on in the competition. The top 5 finalists of this year's competition will be decided by the SMS voting system again, hence do not stop voting for your favourite delegate!

MACIP CHALLENGE 2

WHAT A PITY, THE PRETTIEST IS OUT!

Similar to challenge 1, challenge 2 was divided into 2 segments. This time the delegates were judged by their communication and public speaking skills. In segment 1, videos of the delegates performing public speaking in front of a crowd in Sg. Wang, were telecast and scores were given on the spot by the 3 invited judges (Lynn Lim, Vivian Cheok and a former deejay). For segment 1, the scores were as below:

1. Christina 1.78
2. Joanned 2.83 (won the challenge)
4. Emily 2.00
5. Annie 1.40
6. Chloe 2.13
7. Sharon 2.13
8. Naomie 3.07
9. Stephy 2.20
10. Yen 2.23
11. Mandy 1.80 (won the SMS immunity)
12. Ashley 2.27
13. Tiffany 2.43

Next in segment 2, the delegates were given a task to pretend as a host for an 'auction' red carpet live event. Annie and Christina screwed up the most with Annie announcing the wrong guest to stage and Christina being too nervous. As expected the two of them were announced as the bottom two delegates. Annie lost to Christina by only 1 vote (Tiffany was the last person to vote and she gave a false hope to Annie, this action has tarnished Tiffany's image tremendously). Although both Annie and Christina did not perfom well, HOB feels that Annie worth a chance more than the other :).

MACIP CHALLENGE 1

WENNEE ELIMINATED TOO SOON

For challenge 1, the semi-finalists were judged on their sense of style, modelling skill and overall appearance. The challenge was divided into two segments. In segment 1, the semi-finalists were to style their own look with a white top and a pair of jeans as their main feature. The delegates who shone in the first segment were Annie and Emily. While the two delegates with the lowest score were Yen and Ashley.

Soon after that, segment two begins with the delegates competing in cocktail dresses. Most of the delegates performed with confidence but without substance. Most of them were catwalking just for the sake of walking with stiffness as the main drawback for a majority of them. Naomie needs to be careful of her heavy bum, as it shows even in a loose fitting cocktail dress.

As predicted, Annie won the challenge effortlessly while Wennee was voted out by the delegates. Initally, Ashley was one of the bottom two delegates but she was saved by the SMS votes while Yen managed to keep competing as a majority has voted for her to stay.

THE QUEST FOR THE MOST BEAUTIFUL CHINESE GIRL IN MALAYSIA BEGINS

Miss Astro Chinese International Pageant is an annual pageant organized by ASTRO in search for the most fabulous young lady as the ambassador of Malaysia, to the Chinese society worldwide. Moving into its' 10th year anniversary, the finalists will stand a chance to win themselves a once in a lifetime experience, presenting the warmth culture of our nation to the world at the prestigious international arena of Miss Chinese International Pageant 2008 which will be held in Hong Kong.

The 2007 pageant started off with a walk-in audition in quest of 13 semi-finalists to compete in a series of challenges before a panel of invited judges and homeviewers. The pageant is divided into 3 rounds of challenges where each semi-finalist will be eliminated in every challenge weekly. After 3 rounds of challenges, only 10 finalists will be able to compete in the finals, to be held in Genting Highlands on 26 october 2007.

The SMS voting concept from last year stays on, with the organizer adding more spice and creating more excitement for the 13 semi-finalists to compete with one another. Each week, the delegate with the most SMS votes will receive an immunity and get to stay on in the competition regardless of her performance during the live telecast challenge. At the same time, the delegate who earns the highest score for each challenge will also be given a green light to stay in the competition besides walking-away RM500 richer (sponsored by Pan Malaysian Pool) as a reward. However, the two delegates with the lowest score for each challenge will face the elimination stage. The rest of the delegates will get to vote one of the two lowest score delegates out from the competition. Although the pageant was earlier on being deemed as a little unfair as it uses SMS votes to determine the fate of the delegates, nevertheless these challenges have been creating a better impact towards the competitive level among the delegates
.
